German power-to-gas facility opens green methanation plant; €28M STORE&GO project

A methanation plant expansion to the existing power-to-gas (PtG) facility in Falkenhagen, Germany has officially opened as part of the international €28-million (US$33.5-million) million) STORE&GO research project. Moreover, it provides for unrestricted use of the natural gas infrastructure, including for transport and storage.

Verkehr und Wasser GmbH (VWG) in Oldenburg, Germany has acquired 15 new MAN Lion’s City 12 G EfficientHybrid natural gas buses. The new buses have a crankshaft starter generator on board that converts braking recuperation energy into electrical energy. Bio natural gas has been used since 2013.

E.ON developing pilot hydrogen plant for storing wind power in the German gas grid

is developing a pilot plant in Falkenhagen in the north east of Germany to convert power from wind energy into hydrogen which can then be stored in the country’s gas grid. Using power from renewable energy sources, the plant will produce about 360 m 3 (30 kg) of hydrogen per hour from 2013 onwards through electrolysis.
