Neste Oil building pilot plant to produce waste-based microbial oil for NExBTL renewable diesel fuel; commercial production possible by 2015

Neste Oil will build a pilot plant to produce waste-based microbial oil at its Porvoo refinery. It will be the first pilot plant in Europe designed to produce microbial oil for use in manufacturing renewable fuel from waste-based raw materials. The microbes break down waste and residues into sugars to grow and produce oil.

China Steel Corporation making $46M investment in LanzaTech commercial waste-gas-to-ethanol project

Taiwan’s largest integrated steel maker, China Steel Corporation (CSC), has announced formal Board approval of a 1400-million TWD (US$46 million) capital investment in a LanzaTech commercial ethanol facility. With annual production (in terms of crude steel) around 10 million tonnes, CSC produces a range of products.

Ineos Bio JV breaks ground on advanced waste-to-fuel commercial biorefinery in US

Ineos New Planet BioEnergy (INPB), a joint venture between Ineos Bio and New Planet Energy, broke ground on the $130-million, commercial-scale Indian River BioEnergy Center in Vero Beach, Florida. The BioEnergy Center will convert yard, vegetative and household wastes into cellulosic ethanol and renewable power for the local community.

Air Products to supply industrial gases to INEOS Bioenergy waste-to-ethanol plant

Anglo-Brazilian JV to launch first commercial bagasse cellulosic ethanol production plant in Brazil

UK-based TMO Renewables (TMO) and Usina Santa Maria Ltda have entered into an agreement to form a joint venture to build the first commercial production plant in Brazil to convert sugar cane waste (bagasse) to cellulosic bioethanol.
