The plant will feature SGH2’s technology, which will gasify recycled mixed paper waste to produce green hydrogen that reduces carbon emissions by two to three times more than green hydrogen produced using electrolysis and renewable energy, and is five to seven times cheaper. The facility will process 42,000 tons of recycled waste annually.

The compressed air, now cool and easier to store, is housed in a large air tank.

The CO 2 used in Audi’s e-gas plant is a waste product from a nearby biogas plant, operated by energy provider EWE. A special certification procedure will verify that the same amount of e-gas that owners purchase for their Audi TCNG vehicles is fed into the network by the e-gas plant. Ground was broken in September 2012.
