Fraunhofer IFF team designing hydrogen factory of the future

Green Car Congress

Electricity sourced from sun and wind is used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen in a process called electrolysis. We additionally want to supply electricity, gas and heat to industry. Micropollutants such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides and cosmetics can be removed from wastewater when ozone is introduced. © Fraunhofer IFF.

Argonne researcher using hydrous ethanol as a dual fuel to lighten the carbon footprint of locomotives

Green Car Congress

El-Hannouny is working closely with Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, to develop a second fuel system that can be installed in existing locomotives to supply hydrous ethanol to engines. Hydrous ethanol (also sometimes known as azeotropic ethanol) typically ranges from 186 proof (93% ethanol, 7% water) to 192 proof (96% ethanol, 4% water).

Study Concludes Warming Climate Will Increase Ozone Levels in Major California Air Basins; Climate Change and Regional Air Quality Are Intertwined Problems

Green Car Congress

Illustration of projected ozone changes in the South Coast region due to climate change in 2050. Areas in orange and red could see ozone concentrations elevated by 9 to 18 parts per billion. We already know that climate change will bring us increased forest fires, shorter winters, hotter summers and impact our water supply.

WHO links 7 million premature deaths annually to air pollution; 12.5% of total global deaths

Green Car Congress

WHO says that the new data reveal a stronger link between both indoor and outdoor air pollution exposure and cardiovascular diseases, such as strokes and ischemic heart disease (an insufficient supply of blood—and thus oxygen—to the heart), as well as between air pollution and cancer. The current guideline value is 100 ?g/m

Researchers measure reaction rates of second Criegee intermediate

Green Car Congress

In fact, said Taatjes, the latest results supply one of the most critical targets for such validation. Taatjes and his colleagues confirmed this prediction and made the first experimental determination of the reaction rate of a Criegee intermediate with water. This is a significant benchmark. —Craig Taatjes.
