The UNECE Working Party on Pollution and Energy has approved a proposal to align the requirements on emissions from heavy-duty vehicle engines to the Euro VI legislation (EC Regulations 595/2009 and 582/2011), which enter into force in the European Union (EU) in January 2013. 29) in June 2012 for its final adoption. Norway-based research organization SINTEF is currently heading a major EU-funded project called HARARE , which aims to use hydrogen to recover copper and aluminum from copper slag and bauxite residues (red muds), respectively. HARARE stands for “Hydrogen As the Reducing Agent in the REcovery of metals and minerals from metallurgical waste”.

The US target will roughly double the pace of carbon pollution reduction in the United States from 1.2% The European Union has put forward an INDC to cut its emissions 40% by 2030.
