Researchers propose low-temperature SOFC unit for reducing NOx and oxidizing HCs in lean-burn engine exhaust

Green Car Congress

Concept of the SOFC emissions control system. Their SOFC system can be operated without consuming the anode fuel (a reductant) at temperatures near that of the engine exhaust to eliminate the need for reductant refilling and extra heating. Therefore, an alternative SOFC operation at the exhaust temperature and open circuit is sought.

Concept: Downsized and Supercharged Hybrid Pneumatic Engine for 30%+ Reduction in Fuel Consumption

Green Car Congress

Before realizing the design of a hybrid pneumatic engine (HPE) in hardware, the researchers evaluated the different pneumatic engine modes (motor mode and pump mode) associated with both two-stroke and four-stroke implementations of the pneumatic concept. Their main disadvantage is poor driveability, which can be tackled with the HPE concept.

Hydrogen Opposed Piston Engine Working Group formed

Green Car Congress

The newly formed organization will host a series of meetings of its members to exchange research results, insights, and ideas. OP engines utilize direct injection after ports closure to avoid the risk of fuel short circuiting out the exhaust. Achates Power is backed by the Oil and Gas Climate Investments and other investors.

New Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE 680hp hybrid with technology transfer from Formula 1

Green Car Congress

Power delivery and torque build-up occur very spontaneously and without delay: as in Formula 1, the electric support of the exhaust gas turbocharger eliminates the turbo lag of the combustion engine, while at the same time the electric drive pushes powerfully from a standstill. It ensures the highest level of safety.
