Specialty chemicals company Clariant announced the approval by its Board of Directors to invest in a new full-scale commercial plant for the production of cellulosic ethanol from agricultural residues using its sunliquid technology. The company is investing $50 billion globally through 2026 to achieve a targeted run rate of more than 2 million all-electric vehicles by the end of that year. It follows the EcoBoost gasoline‑engined Tourneo Courier that opens for order this summer, with initial deliveries before the end of 2023.

The E-Transit Courier is the next step as the company electrifies its iconic Transit family of commercial vehicles, joining the larger E-Transit and E-Transit Custom models in the Ford Pro portfolio. Customers will be able to order gasoline- and diesel-engine Transit Courier models from summer 2023 for delivery before the end of the year.

The EU formally approved a law that would ban the sale of combustion engine vehicles by 2035 in an attempt to accelerate consumers’ choice of electric powertrains. The agreement marks the fourth signed license deal for Clariant’s sunliquid technology.
