Moving to further strengthen California’s ties with China, California Air Resources Board Chairman Mary Nichols and Director of the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission Xu Anliang signed a memorandum of understanding in Shenzhen that will expand cooperation at the subnational level to tackle global climate change.

California Governor Edmund G. issued an executive order (B-30-15) to establish a California greenhouse gas reduction target of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030—the most aggressive GHG reduction target enacted by any government in North America to reduce GHG emissions over the next decade and a half.

The State of Maryland followed in the footsteps of California today by banning all new gas vehicle sales by the model year 2035. Maryland laws already exist that require the State to match California’s vehicle emissions programs. This new regulation puts us on a fast-track to meet our climate goals.

The 15 th Congress, also known as the 15 th Conference of Parties, or COP 15, was initially intended to be a largely procedural summit, with many major negotiating points settled and most environmental ministers prepared to sign a binding emissions treaty that contained specific emissions targets as well as commitments to financing structures.

Just one solitary person tasked with coordinating the entire regions’ emissions inventory and helping each city create its climate action plan to reduce its carbon footprint.
