Cummins, in conjunction with European Hydrogen Week , shared new research showing that more than half of the United Kingdom (UK) commuters would be willing to travel to work on a train or bus powered by hydrogen to lower their carbon footprint and reduce emissions. Nearly half of commuters in Belgium and Germany expressed the same view.

All of the EU’s member states but two have failed to show how they will slash air pollution to comply with the emissions limits set out in the EU’s National Emission Ceilings Directive, according to a new report from the European Environmental Bureau (EEB). —by 2020 and 2030.

The strategy is centred around two main technology routes, as introduced in the first ArcelorMittal Europe climate action report published earlier this year: The use of hydrogen in DRI-EAF (Direct Reduced Iron - Electric Arc Furnace) and, also, the blast furnace. The expansion of its Smart Carbon route, also utilizing hydrogen.

During the first quarter of 2023, a total of 600 electric trucks weighing 16 tons and more were registered in Europe—more than four times compared to the same period in 2022 (134).

Analysis conducted after the trial concluded has shown that the use of HVO 100 biofuel saved 44,091kg CO 2 and reduced freight emissions by 89%. The use of HVO100 can significantly reduce CO 2 emissions and reduce the impact of freight on local air quality by reducing NO x and particulate emissions.

Volvo Cars is significantly cutting CO 2 emissions in its logistics operations by switching transports between its manufacturing plants and new car depots from trucks to trains. On another route, from Ghent to a second depot in Austria, emissions were cut by almost half since switching to rail transports.
