The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), along with electric charging station partner AeroVironment opened 10 new public charging stations—seven along Interstate 5 and three along US Route 2 in northern Washington—that provide EV drivers the ability to travel from Seattle to the Canadian border.

The Department of Commerce and the Washington State Department of Transportation plan to make the Stevens Pass Greenway the first electric vehicle-friendly National. With Federal Recovery Act funding through the State Energy Program, the state will install two to three electric vehicle (EV) DC fast charging stations along US Highway 2.

In the initial phase, the aim is to install nearly 100 DC Fast charging ports across both coasts, with plans to expand the program to increase access to fast charging across the country. The installations will occur both within and between relevant metro areas, strategically spaced at a maximum of 50 miles (80 km) apart.

To help facilitate this goal, the Department of Transportation is building a network of 500,000 EV chargers to connect the country along its network of interstate highways by 2030.
