Among the many climate-related vulnerabilities that can impact its mission, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cites a likely increase in tropospheric ozone pollution as potentially making it more difficult to attain National Ambient Air Quality Standards ( NAAQS ) in many areas with existing ozone problems.
Schematic diagram of the trade-offs between the implications for regional air quality and global climatechange of new policies for management of the atmosphere. In the CalNex 2010 study outlined here, NOAA researchers are studying several issues at the heart of the coupled air quality and climatechange problems.
Since soil contains nearly three times as much carbon than in the atmosphere, even a small fraction of carbon emitted from soil has the potential to accelerate climatechange. The researchers then simulated the global carbon emissions from wild pig soil damage based on previous research in the Americas, Europe, and China.
ARB will use the majority of those funds for its California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project to provide incentives for the purchase of zero-emission and plug-in hybrid passenger cars. There will also be an additional $10 million in incentives for hybrid and zero-emission trucks and buses.
Uber is adding more polluting car trips to already-clogged European cities such as London and Paris, new analysis by European NGOs suggests —contributing to air pollution and climatechange and exploding the company’s sustainability claims. Transport represents more than a quarter (27%) of Europe’s total greenhouse gas emissions.

In response to the ongoing discussion about the reliability of the UN IPCC and the climate reports, a group of 55 leading Dutch scientists working in the field of climatechange, energy and the environment wrote an open letter. Errors in the IPCC climatechange report are being seized by some to discredit climate science.
From 2005 through 2020, total US greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are projected to rise by 4% under a “with measures” scenario (but without a cap-and-trade program and other complementary policies), from 7,109 Tg CO 2 Eq. The report projects that transportation-related CO 2 emissions will drop 1.5% US Fifth Climate Action Report.

Numerous studies have shown the importance of quickly reducing methane emissions if we’re to meet growing energy demand and multiple environmental goals.
A report from the State Auditor of California finds that California may not successfully meet its upcoming greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goal of 40% by 2030, which will require the State to reduce GHG emissions by nearly 40% over the next decade. Source: State Auditor Report Number: 2020-114.
As heads of state convened, an abbreviated document was hurriedly produced to minimize sticking points and shopped around among leaders of developed countries. The accord will not become an official United Nations document unless unanimous approval is secured. Emissions Reduction Targets Shuttled To The Side. by Jack Rosebro.
Therefore, the researchers conclude, the total impact of obesity may be an extra emissions of ~700 megatons per year of CO 2 eq—about 1.6% of worldwide GHG emissions. Inasmuch as obesity is an important contributor to global GHG burden, strategies to reduce its prevalence should prioritize efforts to reduce GHG emissions.
The staff of California Air Resources Board (ARB) is in the process of developing a proposal for Board’s consideration later this year to amend California’s Low-Emission Vehicle (LEV) regulations. ARB also plans to integrate its zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) requirements into this new effort. Earlier post.) 3 May 2010.
EPA also finds that GHG emissions from on-road vehicles contribute to that threat. On-road vehicles contribute more than 23% of total US GHG emissions. EPA’s proposed GHG standards for light-duty vehicles would reduce GHG emissions by nearly 950 million metric tons and conserve 1.8 Technical Support Document for the Findings.
Since 2005, when major greenhouse-gas emitters among the Kyoto signatories were issued caps on their emissions and permitted to buy credits to meet those caps, there has been more than $300 billion worth of carbon transactions. Perspective by Brian J. Donovan, CEO of Renergie, Inc. INTRODUCTION.
in collaboration with Grütter Consulting , has launched a program to monetize the carbon emission reductions associated with Cummins Westport (CWI) and Westport HD natural gas engines. Current carbon credits for this type of emission reduction program can receive up to $25 per tonne. Westport Innovations Inc.,
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has posted a discussion document. ARB staff Staff is evaluating four potential broad elements to the Advanced Clean Transit regulation: Require Zero Emission Bus Purchases. Minimize Emissions from Conventional Fleet. Provide Regional Flexibility for Zero Emission Buses.
Starting with 2012 model year vehicles, the rules together require automakers to improve fleet-wide fuel economy and reduce fleet-wide greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 5% every year: NHTSA has established fuel economy standards that strengthen each year reaching an estimated 34.1 Final joint technical support document.
The discussions focused primarily on the issues of climatechange and global energy security, but also covered global air quality-related emissions standards, improved fuel quality and specifications for renewable fuels. Reference documents - UNECE regulations for motor vehicles. Globalautoregs.com.

Greenius Rules. Uncertainty. 2020, Exxon/Mobil. The clock is ticking.
The proposed cause or contribute finding concludes that that the combined emissions of CO 2 , CH 4 , N 2 O, and HFCs from new motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines contribute to the atmospheric concentrations of these key greenhouse gases and hence to the threat of climatechange. Proposed Endangerment Finding.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) denied 10 petitions challenging its 2009 determination that climatechange is real, is occurring due to emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities, and threatens human health and the environment.
A new European project, AMITRAN , is developing a methodology to assess the impact of ICT (information and communication technologies) and ITS (intelligent transport systems) on CO 2 emissions from the transport sector.
