Steel is responsible for around 7% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions every year and is one of the world’s most polluting industries. Converting a significant portion of the fleet to hydrogen would require more DRI plants and more electric furnaces. This would be a major shift in the type of furnaces and fuels used to produce steel.

California’s current strategy of recovering a myriad of fixed costs in electricity usage rates must change as the state uses more renewable electricity to power buildings and vehicles, according to the findings from a new report from the Energy Institute at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and non-profit think tank Next 10.

The Washington State House Transportation Committee voted 17-12 to advance legislation calling for all model year 2030 or later passenger and light-duty vehicles sold in the state to be electric vehicles (EVs). Clean Cars 2030 (HB 1204) sets the first state-legislated 2030 phaseout target for automotive combustion engines in the country.

Colorado has voted to approve a new standard on the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), with an additional goal set for 2032 and new guidance for increasing EV sales beginning in 2027. Notably, the release says that the standard does not prohibit the sale or use of non-electric vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICEs).

The Washington state legislature held a public hearing on Clean Cars 2030, a bill reintroduced with 27 co-sponsors. The bill, HB 1204 / SB 5256 , requires all model year 2030 or later passenger and light-duty vehicles sold in Washington State to be electric. a transition strategy for those negatively impacted by the requirement.
