General Fusion and the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) kicked off projects to advance the commercialization of magnetized target fusion energy as part of a collaborative agreement. The results will hone the design of General Fusion’s demonstration machine being built at the Culham Campus, part of the UK fusion cluster.

ITER , the world’s largest international scientific collaboration, is beginning assembly of the fusion reactor tokamak that will include 12 different essential hardware systems provided by US ITER, which is managed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The 1250-ton cyrostat base is positioned over the ITER tokamak pit for installation.

Ford Motor Company is teaming with DTE Energy to build Michigan’s largest solar array at Ford World Headquarters. The project, funded by DTE Energy, will provide employees with 360 covered parking spaces and 30 charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles such as the company’s Ford Fusion Energi and C-MAX Hybrid Energi.

Researchers at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) have developed a new system which improves the ability of a GPS to determine a vehicle’s position as compared to that of conventional GPS devices by up to 90%, and which can be installed in any vehicle at a very low cost. —Enrique Martí, of UC3M’s GIAA.

The automaker began installing charging stations in September 2014, and currently has 145 units available for employee use at 43 Ford offices and manufacturing facilities in 6 states and Canada. There are plans to install 20 more in the near future, with ongoing discussions to increase the number in the long term.
