Audi building 160,000 m2 photovoltaic system for Gy?r, Hungary plant

Green Car Congress

Together with E.ON, Audi is building a solar energy park on the roofs of the two logistics centers of its plant in Gy?r This will create Europe’s largest photovoltaic system installed on a building at the Audi Hungaria plant in Gy?r. We were the first premium manufacturer to have our CO2 footprint measured and certified in 2014.

Surrey team developing direct-air-capture CO2 to methanol process

Green Car Congress

Pulling chemical building blocks directly out of the air can create a just-in-time process that will help us finally say goodbye to safety hazards such as storing large quantities of chemicals. Importantly, this process could boost the economy by spurring carbon-negative growth, as well as provide fuel security for the UK.

Audi partnering with Climeworks on CO2 direct air capture and storage

Green Car Congress

The Swiss company Climeworks is building the world’s largest direct air capture (DAC) and storage facility for converting atmospheric CO 2 to rock in Iceland. Water from the Hellisheiði power plant then flows through the facility and transports the carbon dioxide roughly 2,000 meters below the surface of the Earth.

Sandia team puts power into local grid with supercritical CO2 closed-loop Brayton-cycle turbine

Green Car Congress

Because so much energy is lost turning steam back into water in the Rankine cycle, at most a third of the power in the steam can be converted into electricity. For this test, the engineers heated up the CO 2 using an electrical heater, fairly similar to a home water heater. The recuperator improves the overall efficiency of the system.

AirCapture, OCOchem and partners win $2.93M DOE grant for direct air capture of CO2 and conversion to formic acid

Green Car Congress

OCOchem transforms recycled CO 2 , water and zero-carbon electricity to produce formic acid, a globally traded commodity chemical and emerging electro-fuel. Almost every manufacturing plant in the world emits waste heat or CO 2 or both, notes Todd Brix, Co-Founder and CEO of OCOchem, based in Richland, Wash.

GWU team demonstrates highly scalable, low-cost process for making carbon nanotube wools directly from CO2

Green Car Congress

The CNT wool process builds on earlier work by Professor Licht and his team to develop a one-pot process that transforms CO 2 into a controlled selection of nanotubes (CNTs) via molten electrolysis: C2CNT (CO 2 into carbon nanotubes). A paper on the work is published in the journal Materials Today Energy. Johnson et al. Click to enlarge.

CO2-Based Process Reduces Water Use in Oil Sands Tailings

Green Car Congress

Canadian Natural Resources (CNRL), an independent crude oil and natural gas producer, is applying a technique at its Horizon oil sands plant that uses CO 2 to change the water chemistry of the tailings, resulting in accelerated settling and greatly reduced water use.
