No, that's not a misprint--Audi really is launching an A3 g-tron next to its A3 e-tron at the Geneva Motor Show. While the e-tron is a plug-in hybrid using Audi's in-development electric vehicle technology, the g-tron uses a different alternative fuel--natural gas.

New natural-gas passenger cars from major carmakers have disappeared from the U.S. Natural-gas options are available for large pickup trucks and vans but only exist for cars through aftermarket conversions offered by specialty firms. In Europe, though, the German luxury maker Audi remains committed to natural-gas powertrains.

A poll conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of Audi of America found that a majority of American drivers would support government initiatives aimed at spurring clean diesel vehicle sales in the US. Audi believes there are a variety of viable alternative fuel solutions, including electric, but diesel is readily available today.
