E-commerce sales in the United States in 2019 amounted to 11.0% of all retail sales— the highest percentage yet. A common explanation of the rise in e-commerce is that it is a consequence of syphoning sales from traditional retail sales. Roughly 145,000 new electric vehicles (EV) were sold in Europe in 2015—double the 2014 tally, according to a recent T&E report. EV sales have now reached the milestone of a 1% market share; figures for 2016 to date suggest significantly more than 200,000 plug-in vehicles will be sold in Europe this year.
