If ever there were an argument for wireless charging, taxis may be it. And as with most things in electric cars, if there's a way to demonstrate the technology in action, Norway may find it. That's the impetus behind the country's latest effort to equip all of Oslo's taxi stands with wireless chargers.

Volvo Cars is integrating and testing wireless charging technology in a live city environment together with selected partners, evaluating its potential for future electric cars. The charging station sends energy through the charging pad, which is picked up by a receiver unit in the car.

The contract between the two companies provides that e.motor Advance will deliver 100 sets of its drivetrain and battery pack systems to Foton for their Midi-E electric car. The 100 Midi-E vehicles will be in service as taxis in the Yanqing area of Beijing in 2012.

Equally, if you are low on charge on a long journey, you simply pull into the nearest charge station or find the nearest public charging point and recharge. me neither, particularly as it is mothers day!
