I don''t want to pay up for a DC-DC unit until I can see the rest of it working. So I''ve been using a PC 500w ATX power supply for the 12v that my BMS needs. It may be enough to run the motor controller too, with the back wheels jacked up so I can see them spin. After 2 years of dragging on I would like that.

I found and bought a Caterpiller electric fork lift truck, the end result was that for $600 I got three 48 volt dc mortors, and a controller. There just enough room to do it in the car. I went looking for a more suitable motor. Plus a couple of hydraulic pumps. I also got the sppeed control pot hooked to a pedal.

I have also bought on Ebay a used Advanced FB1-4001A DC motor which was removed from a EV ranger for $511, the seller also had the controller, a CURTIS PMC model 1231C-8601, voltage 96-144, current 500 A, so I am getting both for $1050. I have been looking for ages on Craigslist for the right car and toyed with all sort of cars.

I got a $3 dollar DVM from Harbor freight cut down the box, wired in a 9 volt dc to dc adapter to the 9 volt input, made a hole in the face plate of the instrument panel that corresponded to the display size of the DVM and mounted this on the panel. This looked very nice from the front of the unit and fit nicely in the cluster.
