An Audi-first in-vehicle technology, TLI communicates between vehicles and traffic signals to provide Time to Green, Green Light Optimized Speed Advisories and can help drivers minimize stop-and-go driving. Audi first brought Traffic Light Information (TLI) to production vehicles in 2016, with just a handful of connected signals.

At the end of January, Audi drivers will see information from around 150 traffic lights in their cockpit, thus increasing their chance of catching a “green wave”. Audi Traffic Light Information consists of two functions: Green Light Optimized Speed Advisory (GLOSA) and Time-to-Green.

Audi says that its Online traffic light information system, demonstrated in an Audi A6 as part of a technology display at the Consumer Electronics Show in January in Las Vegas, is production ready and could be fitted to every Audi model in the range subject to the necessary government legislation. Audi is staging a 550-mile (885 km) piloted drive from Silicon Valley to Las Vegas, Nevada for CES this week using the Audi A7 Sportback piloted driving concept car. Bio-Hybrid GmbH , a company belonging to the Schaeffler Group, will present the near-production Bio-Hybrid ( earlier post )—a new, modern form of personal urban mobility and means of transportation—at CES 2019. The variable and electrically assisted vehicles will be showcased in Las Vegas in the Cargo and Passenger versions.

Equipped cars will be more likely to catch a “green wave” in the city; Audi drivers will see in the cockpit what speed is required to reach the next traffic light on a green. If that is not possible within the permitted speed limit, there will be a countdown to the next green phase. Stop-and-go traffic in cities is annoying.
