CESifo: EVs not the best option for reduction in on-road CO2 in Germany given power mix

Green Car Congress

According to a new study published by the ifo Institue Center for Economic Studies (CESifo) in Germany, EVs will barely help cut CO 2 emissions in the country over the coming years, as the introduction of electric vehicles does not necessarily lead to a reduction in CO 2 emissions from road traffic given the current power generation mix.

Engineered E. coli could make carbohydrates, renewable fuel, from CO2

Green Car Congress

Researchers from Newcastle University in the UK have engineered Escherichia coli bacteria to capture carbon dioxide using hydrogen gas to convert it into formic acid. The bacteria grew under gas pressure and generated formic acid from the CO 2 , said Dr. Sargent. In this study, an E. We wanted to try this in the lab.”.

New highly efficient catalyst for photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction toward methane

Green Car Congress

Researchers at the University of Michigan, McGill University and McMaster University have developed a binary copper?iron Thirty percent of the energy in the US comes from natural gas. Likewise, H 2 O must be broken down to attach the hydrogen to the carbon. If we can generate green methane, it’s a big deal.

AirCapture, OCOchem and partners win $2.93M DOE grant for direct air capture of CO2 and conversion to formic acid

Green Car Congress

OCOchem transforms recycled CO 2 , water and zero-carbon electricity to produce formic acid, a globally traded commodity chemical and emerging electro-fuel. Nutrien, one of the world’s largest fertilizer manufacturers, has committed to achieve at least a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per ton of Nutrien’s products by 2030.

New photocatalyst for the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol with high selectivity at atmospheric pressure

Green Car Congress

Researchers from Soochow University in China and the University of Toronto have developed a new photocatalyst for the hydrogenation of CO 2 to methanol with 50% selectivity under simulated solar irradiation. The researchers emphasized that the source of hydrogen remains key to the environmental viability of photocatalysis.

Hydrogenics to supply 1MW electrolyzer to project converting CO2 to methanol; Power-to-Gas

Green Car Congress

Hydrogenics Corporation will supply a 1MW electrolyzer and provide engineering expertise to a consortium of companies working on the European project MefCO2 (methanol fuel from CO 2 ) in Germany. CO 2 will be captured from the flue gases in a special downstream flue gas scrubber (Post-Combustion Capture, PCC). tonnes of CO 2.
