The world’s first production hybrid electric vehicle to be powered by a liquefied petroleum injected (LPI) engine has proven an instant sales success for its manufacturer. The LPI Hybrid qualifies as a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle and has a fuel economy rating of 17.8km/l (42mpg) - the petrol equivalent fuel economy is 51mpg.

The vehicle will support an all-electric range of 12.4miles at speeds up to 62mph. Over longer distances the Prius Plug-in becomes a conventional petrol-electric hybrid and with this extended range, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are reduced to around 60g/km according to Toyota.
