Voltage surge and transient suppression in EV chargers

Charged EVs

Clamping and crowbarring are related means of shunting transient/surge energy—which essentially means converting it to heat. There are three main ways to deal with transients/surges: blocking, clamping and “crowbarring.” The last consideration is proximity to the grid (aka “exposure” or “category” level).
