Researchers from the University of Birmingham have designed a novel adaptation for existing blast furnaces that could reduce CO 2 emissions from the steelmaking industry by nearly 90%. The UK government is awarding £54 million to 15 projects to develop technologies that remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere. The funding comes under Phase 2 of the Direct Air Capture and Greenhouse Gas Removal technologies competition.
