Tax credit incentives are also available to consumers in the U.S. The Chevy Volt actually sounds like the logical bridge until all day range or quick charging becomes available. And, if you consider lifetime costs of owning an EV versus owning a traditional internal combustion car, even if the initial purchase price of the EV is much more than your combustion car and you have to replace a battery for $4,000 after 7-10 years, the EV still costs less to operate. I even tow a trailer for lumber, ect with mine.

Of course, everything has its drawbacks and one problem with charging at home is that it is not an option available for some city dwellers. Although charging infrastructure is beginning to find its way into cities, it may be awhile until they are available in residential neighborhoods en masse. Battery swapping has its critics.
