A new survey of automakers and Tier 1 suppliers conducted by Ducker Carlisle concludes that as electric vehicles continue to enter the mass market, aluminum demand will grow through the end of the decade. BEV share of production nearly doubled from just under 3% in 2020 to approximately 6% in 2022.

Lithium-ion battery pack prices, which were above $1,200 per kilowatt-hour in 2010, have fallen 89% in real terms to $132/kWh in 2021, according to a new report from BloombergNEF (BNEF). This marks a 6% drop from $140/kWh in 2020. On a regional basis, battery pack prices were cheapest in China, at $111/kWh.

A new report from IDTechEX forecasts the solid-state battery market will grow to $8 billion by 2031. Under most of the mass-production plans, the solid-state battery will likely take off after 2025, although small-scale production may happen even earlier, IDTechEX said. The United States continued a trend of significant growth in large-scale battery capacity, with US battery power capacity reaching 1,650 megawatts (MW) by the end of 2020. At the end of 2019, 163 large-scale battery storage systems were operating in the United States, a 28% increase from 2018.

Frost & Sullivan projects that the global Li-ion battery materials market will reach $51.60 billion in 2020 at a 15.6% Asia-Pacific (APAC) dominates the market and continues to be the highest revenue-generating region. It is slated to account for nearly a third of the global Li-ion battery manufacturing capacity by 2027.
