Amsterdam and Renault-Nissan Partner on EVs; Targeting Sales of 1,000 EVs by End of 2011

Among the specific targets agreed by both parties is a determination to register at least 1,000 EV sales by the end of 2011. As a first step to reaching that target, Nissan will deliver 100 Nissan LEAFs to fleet customers starting in February 2011. In June 2011, deliveries will begin to individual customers.

California has 16,549 public and nonresidential private-sector charging outlets—the most in the nation by far. Automakers are reducing charging times.

Tesla Unveils Model S Electric Sedan

The Model S will carry an initial price of $57,400; applying the new $7,500 Federal tax credit for plug-ins will drop the effective price to $49,900. Production is slated to begin in 2011, assuming the funding for the plant is in place. Tesla says that rapid charging will recharge the battery pack in 45 minutes.

Tesla Takes 520 Reservations for Model S in a Week

Since the launch on 26 March, Tesla Motors has taken 520 reservations for the Model S, an all-electric family sedan that carries up to seven people and travels up to 300 miles per charge. Production of the Model S is planned to begin in late 2011. Three battery pack choices will offer a range of 160, 230 or 300 miles per charge.
