I had surmised this in my 2002 car design thesis [link] even before anyone was talking about plug in series hybrids. The big deal was that the oil industry saw real competition and persuaded GM to abandon the project and crush them all like cans. GM cant do it but a 15 year old chinese car company can.now thats funny!
