South Korea-based SK Energy said it has been chosen as a supplier of lithium-ion batteries for a hybrid electric vehicle project for Daimler commercial vehicle subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso; Daimler holds 85% of Fuso. Earlier this month, a source at SK Energy said the South Korean oil refiner was close to a battery deal with Mitsubishi Fuso.

Honda selected Toshiba Corporation’s SCiB rechargeable Li-ion battery to power the Fit EV. Toshiba will supply battery modules for the new car, which Honda will launch in summer 2012 in Japan and the US. The SCiB generates little heat even during this fast recharging, eliminating the need for power to cool the battery module.

Mitsubishi is to showcase its fast charge function of the all-electric i MiEV city car which slashes the charging time by more than five hours. The fast charger, supplied by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), allows the i-MiEV to recharge from flat to eighty per cent full in just 30 minutes.

The batteries can be recharged in six hours or to 80 per cent capacity in 30minutes using a fast charge system. Its first electric vehicle was the Peugeot 106 Electric, which was sold between 1995 and 2003.
