A 27-tonne hydrogen fuel cell rigid truck built by VDL started its first demonstration with BREYTNER as part of the EU-funded H2-Share project in Schelluinen, the Netherlands. Wystrach GmbH built a low-energy mobile hydrogen refueler to accompany the truck on its demonstration sites. This hydrogen truck is unique in the Benelux.

The company In-der-City-Bus, which is in charge of public transport in Frankfurt, Germany, has awarded a tender for 13 hydrogen buses to Solaris. The Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses are to be deployed on target routes in 2022. The Urbino hydrogen buses are powered by a 70 kW fuel cell stack.

The number of hydrogen stations deployed globally has surpassed the 1,000-mark, according to a study by Information Trends. China represents roughly one-third of global deployments, but the US lags far behind with less than 100 hydrogen stations. Another four Asia-Pacific countries have also deployed hydrogen stations.

In Luxembourg and the Netherlands about two-thirds of new buses were zero-emissions. In Sweden, Norway and Finland, respectively 26%, 24%, and 23% of urban buses registered in 2019 were zero-emission (electric or hydrogen). In 2019, less than 10% of their newly-registered urban buses were electric or hydrogen.

Solaris Bus & Coach and Dutch carrier Arriva Netherlands have signed an agreement for the delivery of 10 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses. The 12-meter hydrogen buses will be delivered to the province of Gelderland in the course of this year. Solaris’ hydrogen buses are also fitted with a Solaris High Power battery.
