Researchers at Carnegie Mellon’s College of Engineering have found that with an emissions-based incentive towards electrification, ridesourcing companies such as Uber and Lyft would electrify more and cut their emissions by amounts ranging from 10% in New York to 22% in Los Angeles. —Bruchon et al. Georgia has a tax credit worth up to $5,000 for zero-emissions vehicles. Honolulu, with 26 quick chargers, has one of densest charging grids in the US. Chicago and Denver (tied).

In recent testimony, Nuvve CEO Gregory Poilasne told the lawmakers that bidirectional charging can reduce the total cost of EV ownership, and that it’s essential for integrating more renewable energy into the grid. Then it takes the DC from the bus, or car, and converts it back to AC to provide power for the grid. That’s one way.

The growth of ZEVs represents a potential drain on motor vehicle fuel taxes, which could affect state transportation revenue. Grid overload is another concern. SoCal Edison and the Los Angeles Air Force Base are conducting a pilot program that allows electric vehicles to act as batteries and send power back to the grid.

Fisker revealed its Fisker Ocean electric SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The base Fisker Ocean Sport trim level is priced at $37,499, before federal and state tax credits. The company calls these technologies PowerCar, Power Grid, and PowerHouse.
