His new company, ZeroAvia, is developing an aircraft powertrain energized by hydrogen fuel cells. Last September, ZeroAvia successfully completed a test flight of a commercial-scale fuel cell-powered aircraft. You have to build the battery powertrain first, and add the fuel cell system. That’s when we started.

The fuel economy, which is best in Touring mode, is rated by the EPA at 24 mpg city/29 highway/26 combined mpg. The Active Fuel Management system helps reduce fuel consumption by temporarily deactivating some of the engine’s cylinders in certain driving conditions. Zero-to-60 times of right around 7.3 mpg, same as the EPA.
