Clean Fleet Report got a chance to sample the model at a recent media event in San Diego. The driving range in pure electric mode is short, so best save that battery juice for parking garages or sneaking in late at night. To keep those lofty perches, sitting still will not do. The recharging process can be viewed on a dash gauge.

A side benefit could be plugging in appliances to the car while camping rough. And plenty of technology remains left to be worked out: including the complex supporting infrastructure, business models, and various forms of electric plugs and chargers, alongside their sometimes confounding range of pin configurations.

Jay Friedland, Plug In America Legislative Director, followed in a RAV4 EV with some more profs, who had come to learn about California's EV efforts. Lo and behold, we spy two Coulomb J-plug/120V units, one with a plug-in Prius conversion plugged in. The other unit however, was in working order and I plugged the LEAF in.

As Richard Lowenthal said to me at the event: "Great deal!" Coulomb Technologies unveiled San Francisco's first ChargePoint America charge stations yesterday in a Priority Parking lot along the Embarcadero. The charge stations and installations were paid for with federal stimulus and California Energy Commission grants won by Coulomb.
