Study identifies combustion-derived nanoparticles in diesel exhaust as the predominant mediator for adverse cardiovascular events

Green Car Congress

A large body of work shows that exposure to road traffic and air pollution may be a trigger of adverse cardiovascular events such as angina, myocardial infarction, and heart failure, with long-term exposure increasing the lifetime risk of death from coronary heart disease.

BorgWarner suggests Valve-Event Modulated Boost system can offer 6-17% fuel economy benefit over already downsized and turbocharged engines

Green Car Congress

The VEMB system uses a concentric camshaft, blow-down manifold and scavenge manifold to separate the exhaust event into two phases: high-energy blow-down to the turbo without pumping losses, and high-hydrocarbon scavenge to the EGR system. Source: Borgwarner. Click to enlarge. —Christopher Thomas.

Brunel to use Camcon Single Cylinder IVT in researching future powertrain concepts

Green Car Congress

Brunel’s Center for Advanced Powertrain and Fuels (CAPF) plans to use SCI to further investigate the potential and control that digital valves provide. Both conventional and unconventional event profiles can be achieved. SCI enables event-shaping, allowing the maximum opening point of the valve to be skewed within the event.

Cummins & Tula demonstrate Diesel Dynamic Skip Fire (dDSF) cylinder deactivation; up to 66% reduction in NOx on CARB LLC #7

Green Car Congress

By using dDSF software to control cylinder deactivation in a diesel engine, Cummins and Tula demonstrated significant reductions in emissions and fuel consumption. Like DSF for gasoline engines, dDSF uses individual cylinder deactivation control strategies to meet torque demand at optimal fuel and aftertreatment efficiency.
