Add in a DC fast-charge rate that tops out at a claimed 130kW and you can see the iX1 is not cutting edge for range or recharging. At its most efficient, BMW says the iX1 can recharge its battery from 10-80 per cent in 29 minutes.

The range claim between recharges is 446km on the WLTP cycle. The EQE300 SUV can fast charge at a claimed rate up to 170kW, which delivers a 10-80 per cent recharge in 32 minutes. At the maximum 11kW AC recharging rate (which requires three-phase power), the recharge time from empty to full is about eight-and-a-half hours.

The 77 is also the only MG4 with an 11kW onboard charging unit, which means a full recharge in seven hours. Sadly, there’s no spare tyre under the boot floor, just an inflator kit.
