Shell has selected Ascension Parish in Louisiana as the location for a potential natural gas-to-liquids (GTL) facility. Contingent on a final decision to move forward with the Gulf Coast GTL project, Shell would be reimbursed for this total cost from performance-based infrastructure grants provided by the State of Louisiana.

Shell Lubricants announced the arrival of its first shipment of gas-to-liquid (GTL) base oil at the Port of Houston. The product, the first from the Qatar-based Pearl GTL plant to reach the Americas, will be stored at a hub in Houston and routed to Shell Lubricants’ GTL-enabled blending facilities throughout the United States.

Marubeni Corporation announced that Marubeni Eagle Ford Limited Partnership, a US subsidiary of Marubeni, has entered into an agreement with Dallas based Hunt Oil Company to acquire a 35% working interest in the Eagle Ford shale oil and gas play covering approximately 52,000 net acres of oil and gas leases located in Texas.

Qatalum, a joint venture by Qatar Petroleum and Hydro, achieved its full production capacity of 585,000 tonnes of primary aluminum on 21 September. It is a fully-integrated primary aluminium plant consisting of a smelter, casthouse and carbon plant as well as a dedicated gas fired power plant with a capacity of approximately 1,350 MW.
