Cummins has invested $24 million in Germany-based VoltStorage, a developer of stationary flow batteries. In addition, the international research and development team is working on the low-cost iron-salt battery, the properties of which make it particularly suitable for ensuring base load capability for wind and solar farms.

UK-based Connected Energy and Groupe Renault have installed two quick-charge stations based on Connected Energy’s E-STOR energy storage technology on highways in Belgium and Germany. The E-STOR technology developed by Connected Energy uses second-life batteries from Renault electric vehicles.

The Porsche Home Energy Manager monitors energy and power consumption.

Connected to the grid or even off-grid, the station can charge up to four electric cars simultaneously, based on the principle of a ‘power bank’, two with DC quick charging. The charging station can be used as interim storage for eco-power; however, when connected to the mains power grid, it becomes a permanent charging point.
