At the tailpipe, the TWC ultimately reduced the regulated and unregulated emissions from the methanol-gasoline engine to the same levels as those generated by a conventional gasoline engine. Bush called for one million cars in the most polluted areas in the US to be running on methanol, ethanol or natural gas by 1997.
