billion tonnes, their highest ever level, as the world economy rebounded strongly from the COVID-19 crisis and relied heavily on coal to power that growth, according to new IEA analysis. Coal accounted for over 40% of the overall growth in global CO 2 emissions in 2021, reaching an all-time high of 15.3 billion tonnes.

EIA: US energy-related CO2 fell by 2.8% in 2019, slightly below 2017 levels

Green Car Congress

CO 2 emissions from coal fell by 14.6%, the largest annual percentage drop in any fuel’s CO 2 emissions in EIA’s annual CO 2 data series dating back to 1973. The United States now emits less CO 2 from coal than from motor gasoline. Nearly all of the change in CO 2 emissions in 2019 arose in the electric power sector.

Roskill: CO2 emissions from lithium production set to triple by 2025

Green Car Congress

This calculation includes all CO 2 emissions grouped under Scope 1 and 2 categories as set out by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol as well those associated with transporting material between production and refining sites. For the purposes of this analysis, emissions are classed as any anthropogenic sources of CO 2.

Australian Coal Baron Backing the Next Winners (EV Startups), or “Follow the Money”

CleanTechnica EVs

Trevor St Baker is one of the smart billionaires in Australia who is investing serious money in the transportation sector to promote the changeover to EVs despite his history and vocal support for coal-fired power stations. He is a coal baron who drives a Tesla Model 3, and he is building an EV ecosystem.

EIA: US energy-related CO2 dropped 2.7% in 2015; of end-use sectors, only transportation increased

Green Car Congress

Of the four end-use sectors, only transportation emissions increased in 2015 (+2.1%). Specific circumstances, such as the very warm fourth quarter of 2015 and relatively low natural gas prices, put downward pressure on emissions as natural gas was substituted for coal in electricity generation. decline in energy intensity (Btu/GDP).

The Allam-Fetvedt Cycle is a new type of power cycle that takes a novel approach to emissions reduction. Ammonia is easily stored in bulk at modest pressures, has an existing global distribution network, and is easier to transport than hydrogen. Clean Power: transformative zero-emissions power cycles.

EIA: US energy-related CO2 emissions in 2012 lowest since 1994; reflects drop in coal use

Green Car Congress

The largest drop in emissions in 2012 came from coal, which is used almost exclusively for electricity generation. During 2012, particularly in the spring and early summer, low natural gas prices led to competition between natural gas- and coal-fired electric power generators.
