Starting immediately, Deutsche Post is offsetting any unavoidable CO 2 emissions due to mail transport with investments in internationally recognized and certified climate protection projects at no extra charge. Deutsche Post’s new policy now makes letter mail more climate friendly for private customers as well.

Volkswagen is the first automaker to transport most of its new vehicles overseas using low-emission LNG ships. On the return trip, the LNG ships will transport new vehicles destined for Europe. The company follows the principle of focusing first on the avoidance of CO 2 emissions and then on reducing emissions as far as possible.

With 85 percent lower CO 2 emissions than with conventional fossil fuels, the contribution to climate protection is enormous. In Cologne, as in cities across Europe, low-emission zones are being introduced to address air quality challenges by discouraging the most polluting vehicles from driving through them. Whenever a trial vehicle enters a controlled zone, its electric-drive mode is triggered and the zero-emission driving green miles are documented.

Last week, the European Commission adopted a package of proposals to make the EU’s climate, energy, land use, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels (Fit for 55). As a result, all new cars registered as of 2035 will be zero-emission.
