Preem has chosen Haldor Topsoe’s HydroFlex renewable fuel hydrotreating technology to produce clean renewable diesel and jet fuel at its Gothenburg refinery in Sweden. The new plant is scheduled to be put on-stream in 2024 and will be dedicated to producing renewable fuels from tall oil, tallow, and other renewable feedstocks.
The plant will use Steeper Energy’s hydrothermal liquefaction process (HydroFaction) to produce an oil that can be used directly as marine propulsion fuel (or upgraded further to produce drop-in diesel or jet fuel). With current options this corresponds to annual expenditure increases of several hundred million Euros.
