After years of waiting Australia will have a CO2 emissions standard by January 1 2025 officially encouraging the purchase of electric vehicles if an ambitious Albanese Labor government timetable comes to pass. The NVES will work by providing car companies with targets for average emissions per kilometre from new vehicles sold.

JATO: European new car CO2 emissions highest average since 2014; shift from diesel to gasoline and SUVs rise

The analysis covered 23 markets in Europe and found a direct correlation between diesel car registrations and average CO2 emissions. With increased negative public perception towards diesels, combined with new government regulations such as WLTP and scrutiny of the fuel type, demand for diesel fell by 18% in 2018.

Study finds Tula dDSF software reduced NOx 41% and CO2 9.5% in Leibherr D966 diesel

EEA final data shows average car CO2 emissions in Europe kept increasing in 2019
