In a new roadmap launched by the International Copper Association (ICA), members have aligned on an ambition to reach net zero in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2050, and work toward the same goal for Scope 3 emissions. This would result in a collective emissions reduction of up to 85% by 2050.

A new brief published by the International Transport Forum (ITF)—an intergovernmental organization at the OECD with 59 member countries— identifies proven measures that decrease road freight’s CO 2 emissions. This will offset any expected efficiency gains and lead to an increase in emissions by 2050, not a reduction.

An analysis by JATO Dynamics has found that average new vehicle CO 2 emissions in European increased in 2018, with the total average increasing by 2.4 g/km in 2018—the highest average of the last four years. Instead of moving forwards, the industry is regressing at a time when emissions targets are getting tougher.
