Testing showed that blending EEB with diesel significantly reduces soot emissions, similar to how ethanol reduces emissions when blended with gasoline. EEB can also be blended with gasoline or burned to produce electricity. Vitruvian has modeled production costs at $2.58-3.73 per gallon.

In 1975, General Ernesto Geisel, then-president of Brazil, ordered the country’s gasoline supply mixed with 10% ethanol. The level was raised to 25% over the next five years, which was intended to maintain a constant Brazilian gasoline supply for an ever-increasing demand. These were arguably the first flex-fuel vehicles.

The Alternative and Renewable Fuels and Vehicle Technology Program’s Investment Plan allocates $176 million over the next two years to stimulate green transportation projects and encourage innovation to help meet the state’s aggressive climate change policies. Vehicles are the major contributor to global warming pollution.

Ethanol can only be used in a blend of up to 10% with gasoline, biodiesel is being limited to no more than a 5% blend with conventional diesel. These include both hydrogenated renewable diesels and fuels produced via the Fischer–Tropsch process. The NZ Biodiesel Grants Scheme applies only to FME biodiesel. Commissioner Wright.

The US National Science Foundation (NSF) is awarding 20 grants for FY 2009 in two research areas on natural systems: biosensing and bioactuation (12 awards); and obtaining hydrocarbons from biomass and microorganisms (8 awards). They will also integrate CFP into a power cycle, so that excess heat from the process can produce electricity.
