Specifically, the team will demonstrate operation of a 50 kW SOCC system at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) using simulated nuclear power to produce syngas at a cost that is expected to be ~30% lower than is possible via alternative renewable power-based approaches.
Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) is the lead lab for the codes and standards pillar, supported by consortium members National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL).
trafficThis scenario is highly desirable to automotive manufacturers, who harbor great concerns about battery warranty if vehicle-to-grid discharging is allowed. V2GFull varies not only the charging of the vehicle battery, but also can vary the discharging of the battery back into the power grid.
As international renewable energy portfolios grow, this collaboration highlights the increasing momentum and need for more flexible and reliable low-carbon energy generation. A Shearwater-NuScale wind-nuclear energy system will provide reliable, load following power to overcome intermittency and grid stability issues.
Sandia researchers are working with experts from Argonne, Idaho and Pacific Northwest national laboratories; the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; and others as a national security laboratories team. We have been studying potential impacts to the power grid.
To Nick de Vries, chief technology officer at the solar-energy developer Silicon Ranch , a transformer is like an interstate on-ramp: It boosts the voltage of the electricity that his solar plants generate to match the voltage of grid transmission lines. And its not just renewable-energy projects.
Nuclear-renewable hybrid energy systems (N-R HESs) can enable low-carbon, on-demand electricity while providing reduced-emission thermal energy for industrial processes. Together, these three reports indicate nuclear renewable hybrid energy systems can reduce industrial emissions and support the power system.
Yet it places unprecedented demand on our electrical grid. Department of Energy (DOE), the growing demand from plug-in electric vehicles and many other technologies that require electricity could increase the load on our power grids by up to 38% by 2050. What Is Vehicle-to-Grid Technology? home for a day. How Does V2G Work?
The greatest hydropower potential was found in western US states, including Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Hydropower makes up 7% of total US electricity generation and continues to be the US’ largest source of renewable electricity.
The Battery500 consortium will receive up to $10 million a year over five years from the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Idaho National Laboratory. Beyond PNNL, the consortium includes the following partners: Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Leading energy company Nuon will provide renewable energy for the charging stations and Coulomb’s international partner 365-Energy will manage the ChargePoint Network for subscribers. KHLim also has its own energy grid to which the ChargePoint charging stations are connected.
With support from FCTO, within the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, selected project partners will be granted access to H2@ Scale facilities, capabilities, and expertise at DOE national laboratories. Example H2@Scale Topics. Click to enlarge.

Grid-Edge Intelligent Distribution Automation System for Self-Healing Distribution Grids, $550,000. Oberon Fuels (San Diego, California).
The first commercial 12-module NuScale power plant is planned to be built on the site of the Idaho National Laboratory. The technology’s operational flexibility can also be integrated with other carbon-free renewable energy sources like wind and solar to provide consistent power and to help enable stable grid performance.
These vehicles are the green machines that will provide a critical part of the renewable and sustainable society that we need for the future. [ PHEVLERs make our electric grid more efficient. [ 15 ] Electric power grids are designed with capacity to serve the highest power peaks demanded (e.g. About the authors. Dr. Andrew A.
The US Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a wide-ranging Funding Opportunity Announcement ( DE-FOA-0000397 ) for up to a total of $27 million in Phase III small business awards in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy, electricity delivery and energy reliability, fossil energy, and nuclear energy.
The department’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy is investing nearly $6.7 Work in the bioenergy area will focus on improving methods and processes for converting cellulosic biomass into usable bio-based chemicals, made from renewable, domestic components. Grid Logic, working with ORNL. Organization. Description.
Idaho National Laboratory has released the voluminous findings from its analysis of five large-scale PEV and charging infrastructure projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Plug-in Electric Vehicle and Infrastructure Analysis Full Report.
The station, called Fengning and located about 200 kilometers north of Beijing, will store up to 40 gigawatt-hours of energy, and help keep the grid on clean energy when the wind isn’t blowing or the sun’s not shining.
