Volvo Cars formally inaugurated a new battery assembly line at its Belgian manufacturing plant in Ghent, where it will start building its first fully electric car, the XC40 Recharge P8, later this year. The XC40 Recharge P8 is the first of a family of fully electric Volvos. Volvo XC40 Recharge powertrain.

As part of the investment, the Halewood plant in the UK will become an all-electric production facility and the next generation medium-size SUV architecture, electrified modular architecture (EMA), will now be pure-electric. It will be renamed the Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre to reflect the move.
