CR found, based on its survey of 1,752 adults, that most consumers would like a range of 89 miles for daily driving.

Merc wants the electric smart to perform badly, to have a short range and little power, so that it dosent eat up other products in the lineup. It is probably possible to make a 20k electric smart that outperforms most other cars on the road in everything except range and top speed. For this to happen there has to be a detuning process.
