New Emissions Analytics study suggests pollution from tire wear now 1,850 times worse than exhaust emissions

Green Car Congress

In early 2020, UK-based independent testing firm Emissions Analytics published a study claiming that tire particulate wear emissions were 1,000 times worse than exhaust emissions ( earlier post ). As a result, distance-specific mass and number emissions can be derived, which can then be compared to equivalent tire metrics.

Achates near-zero heavy-duty opposed-piston diesel enters fleet service; compliant with 2027 NOx levels

Green Car Congress

The cleaner engine is able to deliver ultra-low NO x by managing exhaust gas temperatures to ensure rapid catalyst light-off and by maintaining aftertreatment temperatures at optimum operating conditions in all driving conditions.

Optimized heavy-duty CI engine fueled with DME delivers diesel performance, significantly reduces engine-out emissions

Green Car Congress

The common rail pump was externally lubricated by engine oil so that it can handle the low fuel lubricity. The engine was also equipped with an electrically driven volumetric pump in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) path which gives the freedom to set any desired EGR rate, independently from the pressure ratios across the turbocharger.

Empa and partners exploring DME as fuel with new heavy-duty test engine

Green Car Congress

In cooperation with a major European supplier, a new oil-lubricated common-rail pump had therefore been developed. An electrically driven compressor for precise exhaust gas recirculation is also used. This is done via exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). —Patrik Soltic. The first results are very promising.

UBC researchers find life-cycle GHG benefits of LNG in marine shipping only from high-pressure dual-fuel engines in ocean-going vessels

Green Car Congress

A life-cycle assessment of emissions from domestic and imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), and heavy-fuel oil (HFO) for marine shipping by a team from the University of British Columbia has found that only high-pressure dual-fuel (HPDF) engines robustly reduce well-to-wake GHG emissions by 10% compared with their HFO-fueled counterparts.
