At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jeep unveiled the 2018 Wrangler, with new mild hybrid (eTorque) and diesel options to be available. The 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2-door model is available in three different trim configurations: Sport, Sport S and Rubicon. Wrangler 4-door models are available in four different trim configurations: Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon.

The government of South Australia and the City of Adelaide have agreed to increase the uptake of electric vehicles as part of their commitment to the Climate Action Roundtable. The roundtable, which includes state leaders from Victoria, Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory as well as city representatives from Adelaide, Hobart and Darwin, also agreed to coordinate the planning and construction of electric vehicle infrastructure and the standardization of incentives.

UPS has launched an eBike that will deliver packages along Las Olas Boulevard and in surrounding neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Like almost everyone else, I was blown away by Tesla’s surprise introduction of the second-generation Roadster at the recent semi-truck reveal event. SONDORS Electric Car Company unveiled its three seat, three wheel, all electric vehicle at the 2017 LA Auto Show. The prototype, nicknamed Model SONDORS, was funded in January of this year through equity crowdfunding and completed seven months later. UQM Technologie has signed a joint venture agreement with China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. (CNHTC) and Sinotruk Global Village Investment Limited, a Hong-Kong-based limited liability company owned by CNHTC. New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the availability of up to $3.5 million for innovative research and development proposals to accelerate the use of electric vehicles, to reduce the cost of installing and operating charging stations, and to provide recommendations on how they can be used for grid resiliency. The Governor has set a goal to reduce the state’s greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030.

In a significant step toward getting its new EVs into production, Audi management and the Audi Works Council have come to an agreement extending job security until the end of 2025. The deal covers the entire workforce of Audi AG. General Works Council Chairman Peter Mosch and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler also announced that two all-electric SUV models are to be built at the Ingolstadt site from 2021.

Kia introduced the 2018 Niro Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) ( earlier post ) to the US market at the Los Angeles Auto Show. As Kia’s third plug-in model after the Soul EV and the Optima PHEV, and anticipated in retailer showrooms by the end of this year, the Niro PHEV offers an estimated 26 miles (42 km) of all-electric range, 105 MPGe, 46 mpg combined, and Super Ultra-Low Emissions.
