Toyota phasing out diesel in passenger cars in Europe, keeping diesel for commercial vehicles

Buoyed by strong European customer demand for hybrid versions on its core models, Toyota will phase out diesel engines from all its passenger cars in 2018. In contrast, Toyota’s diesel mix on passenger cars was less than 10% in 2017. Toyota’s HEV mix in passenger cars already equalled our diesel mix in 2015.

University College Dublin Study finds Prius IV hybrids drive >60% of the time in zero-emissions mode under Irish conditions

A new study carried out by University College Dublin (UCD) academics has found that under typical Irish commuting conditions, the Toyota Prius IV (fourth-generation) hybrid ( earlier post ) drives in zero emissions mode (ZEV) for significantly more than half (62%) of the time and more than 40% (40.4%) of the distance covered.

Is the Ford Fiesta more fuel efficient than the Prius?

According to Australia’s GoAuto, the new Ford Fiesta Econetic diesel, which has fuel consumption of 63.6mpg under the Australian combined fuel test cycle, has lower fuel consumption than the third generation Prius at 60mpg under the same test cycle. By contrast, the Ford Fiesta Econetic diesel has an emissions rating of 98g/km.
