International consortium launches government-supported study on hydrogen vehicle refueling infrastructure in France

Green Car Congress

For high power vehicles or for those making long journeys, the hydrogen and fuel cell solution complements the battery-based only solution that is currently being deployed in France. Several French companies have developed expertise and products, with prototype products currently operating in France under real-world conditions.

EEA says industrial air pollution cost Europe up to €169 billion in 2009; some 37% attributed to CO2

Green Car Congress

Aggregated damage costs by pollutant. The EEA quantified the damage costs arising from CO 2 emissions based on estimated marginal abatement cost. Half of the total damage cost (between €51–85 billion) was caused by just 191 facilities. Source: EEA. Click to enlarge. Log scale) Source: EEA. Click to enlarge.

Researchers develop large-scale, economical method to extract hydrogen from oil sands and oil fields

Green Car Congress

This means it potentially costs a fraction of gasoline for equivalent output. This compares with current H 2 production costs of around $2/kilo. What comes out of the ground is hydrogen gas, so we don’t have the huge above-ground purification costs associated with oil refining: we use the ground as our reaction vessel.

Abellio, Alstom, NASA and Rolls-Royce to implement new hybrid drive solution on Coradia Lint diesel trains

Green Car Congress

In addition, the ability to run under battery power only can reduce noise pollution in city areas and stations by 75% (20 dB(A)). The total operating costs of rail vehicles with MTU hybrid drives are also significantly lower. This enables very low-noise, emissions-free battery-only electric operation in urban areas and around stations.

IEA: Decisive action by governments is critical to unlock growth for low-carbon hydrogen

Green Car Congress

Currently, global production of low-carbon hydrogen is minimal, its cost is not yet competitive, and its use in promising sectors such as industry and transport remains limited—but there are encouraging signs that it is on the cusp of significant cost declines and widespread global growth, according the IEA’s Global Hydrogen Review 2021.

UNECE adopts three new regulations to improve the safety and environmental performance of motor vehicles

Green Car Congress

In the nine countries for which data is available (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Netherlands, Republic of Korea and United States) more than 10,000 people died in pole or other side impacts in 2009. For other air pollutants, the regulation stipulates that retrofitting shall not result in increased emissions.
